This week. . . .
Practicing our assembly songs for Monday 10th, september( Don't forget to come and watch!)
Our theme is Parnell District School as a multi - cultural community and we will be celebrating this.
Mathematics
How many ways we can we make 5?
Each day as part of our calendar work, we see how many ways we can arrive at a number - the number is always "today's date.
On the 5th this is what the class came up with, each child had a go and was successful.
Was super impressed with the multiplication sums!!!

Today is Harrison's Birthday and his kind Grandma got up early this morning and baked 19 cupcakes for the children in Room 5! They were delicious and here is what the children said in their storywriting today:-
" they were sweet, delicious, scrumptious and I had yellow icing on mine, and Harrison did too."

" Today I had a cupcake and it had yellow icing.On the icing there was a blue star, it was little and there was a sprinkle too. It smelt like a pancake and was yummy."

Today it was Harrison's Birthday and in the morning we sang happy birthday to him. For brain food Harrison gave us a cupcake. I chose a cupcake with red. Every one else chose yellow or brown. On top of the icing there were sprinkles."

We had cupcakes for brain snack. They had yellow, red and black icing and tomorrow it will be his birthday. There will be lots of lollies!"

Week 1 - Olympic Fever!
Fantastic to see everyone back to school looking refreshed and ready for a busy term ahead.
The children have started putting thoughts into our topic study and written some wonderful stories about "I have a dream. . " and what they might want to do to make their dreams come true - these are displayed in our room so please come and have a look.
REMEMBER. . . Diary the 9th August (Thursday) for our Mini-Olympics at school where the children will be striving to do their "personal best" in all the team activities planned for that day.

On Tuesday 12 June Room 5 visited Orakei marae. We went on the bus which was really exciting! When we arrived there was a powhiri. We had to take off our shoes to go into the wharenui. We looked at all the Maori art work and copied some kowhaiwhai and tukutuku patterns.
The children enjoyed their morning at the marae:
Maisie: "I loved the tikis and I saw the Maori canoe which was used for fishing."
Alex: "I liked the patterns of the Maori carvings."
Harrison: "There was a huge canoe with paddles. Lots of people can sit in it."
Anya: "I liked doing the patterns."
Maalika: "I liked looking around the marae and I had my morning tea ("kai") in the eating house."
